File this under ‘why didn’t I think of that’. Dark chocolate and raspberries are two flavors that can never go wrong (much like peanut butter and chocolate – more on that later).

Reflection: Favorites from 2011
With 2013 coming to a close tonight, I’d like to reflect on some of my favorite tracks from the past in a series of posts. First up, my favorites from 2011, when I first started using the fantastic app Shazam to keep track of my favorite songs. Without further ado, here are the tracks I tagged in 2011 (in chronological order of tag date):
- Sander van Doorn – Love is Darkness: fantastic vocals from Carol Lee made this a iTunes-worthy download for me
- Meck feat. Dino – Feels Like a Prayer: Madonna’s “Like a Prayer” was one of my favorite songs growing up and this remix just took it up a notch (or ten)!
- Activa presents Solar Movement – Eclipse (Mat Zo Remix): progressive trance at its best. I usually don’t like tracks over 4-5 minutes (though I realize that’s typical for PT) but this one is worth it.
- Mord Fustang – Lick the Rainbow: I’m not a fan of Ford Mustangs but Mord Fustang has been putting out killer tracks for a few years now; this one’s a shining example. Expect to see more posts on this guy.
- Erik Arbores – Bliss: this track comes to you courtesy of a 14 year old. Wow!
- Skrillex – Kill Everybody (Bare Noize Remix): this is not a good track to drive a fast car to – it’s an amazing one. Skrillex took dubstep to the next level with his Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites debut and absolutely blew up in the following year.
- Martin Solveig & Dragonette – Big in Japan (Les Bros Remix): this one’s for my vertically challenged friends. 😉 What was an already catchy tune got a nice beat upgrade (I dig the part starting at the 2:00 mark). Check out the official video for the original mix, too – love this guy’s productions.
Happy dancing and happy new year’s!
Delicious Egg Sandwich
My grade school son made an amazing sandwich this morning with the following ingredients:
- pan-fried egg
- havarti dill cheese slice
- bread & butter pickle slices (we like Bubbies brand)
- grape tomato slices
All between two whole grain slices of bread topped with mayo. Happy eating, indeed!
Zedd feat. Hayley Williams – Stay The Night (Tiesto Remix)
Are you gonna stay the night?
Doesn’t mean we’re bound for life
So oh oh oh oh oh oh oh, are you gonna stay the night?
This track is spanning the charts. From EDM to pop, it’s blowing up! Leave it to the legend that is Tiesto to make it even catchier. Happy dancing!
Osen & Baha – The Warrior (Lush & Simon Remix)
The premise of this track (ie lyrics) are a bit cheesy – not something I’m particularly keen on. Somehow though these guys managed to pull off a catchy tune that I want to listen to again and again.
Happy dancing!
Omnia feat. Everything by Electricity – Bones
You’ll notice this track is currently on my sidebar (and if it isn’t, you missed out!) but it’s so good it’s worth posting about as well. Holy smokes does this track get me going. I simply can’t get enough of hearing it!
Happy dancing!

Funky beats, gravity-defying models, may not be suitable for at-work viewing.

Armin van Buuren feat. Miri Ben-Air – Intense
I have long been a fan of EDM that incorporates classical instruments (primarily pianos). This track – well, it pulls at your heartstrings just as strongly as the strings of the violin Miri plays. This is the radio edit but if you want the total effect, here is the full version. 2:27 into the radio edit (4:13 into the full) makes my hair stand straight.
Happy dancing!
Cracker, neufchatel and muffalata
I discovered this combination the other week as we were getting ready to host a friend’s birthday. The muffalata is at the heart of this delicious appetizer. The best part is that it comes in both mild and spicy varieties (the latter being my favorite). Grab your favorite cracker or baguette, spread on some neufchatel (keeps the fat content and calories to a minimum over cream cheese) and top with a spoonful of muffalata. Makes for a great snack or appetizer!

Happy eating!
